Wasini Island is located off the southern Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. It is a marine life lover’s heaven, boasting an abundance of unspoilt coral reefs which offer a unique opportunity for spotting dolphins, turtles, tropical fish and whale sharks. The Island itself hosts a rare variety of plants and birds which are furthermore able to thrive in their tranquil habitat because there are no cars or roads! The surrounding area, to the Tanzanian border, consists of traditional fishing villages & also very interesting large caves slightly inland as well as at Shimoni. There is no resort development & the area has retained its traditional charm.
Shimoni has been designated by the Museums of Kenya a National Heritage sight – they are renovating historical points of interest in the village.
